A hardy annual, native to California, but is easily grown throughout the United States. These delicate, sky blue, cup-shaped flowers continue to bloom throughout spring. They require a light, sandy soil with moderate amounts of water. They prefer partial shade, but in cooler climates they can tolerate full sun. A charmer in wooden barrels and hanging baskets. They can also be used in borders and rock gardens and in open or wooded areas. They also work well in front of borders and as an edging for beds, walkways, and paths. Try it tucked between paving stones. It is a natural for containers.

They prefer light soils and dry conditions, but is adaptable. Also prefers some shade to filtered sun, average moisture and well drained soil. They cannot take hot, humid conditions.

Since this species blooms very quickly from seed, it is often a feature of early spring meadows where it adds wonderful color.
